Sidak Singh, a young spinner who plays for Puducherry, did an Anil Kumble as he remarkably bagged all 10 wickets in an innings. Singh performed this feat in a domestic game on Saturday during a Colonel C.K. Nayudu U23 fixture. The young left-arm spinner finished with a ten-for against Manipur at the CAP Siechem Ground.
Originally from Mumbai, the 19-year old was roped in as an outstation player by Puducherry. The spinner immediately made his presence felt early in the season as he single-handedly bundled out Manipur for a mere 71. The youngster finished with astounding figures of 17.5-7-31-10, reported Sportstar.
Back in 1999, veteran leg-spinner Anil Kumble, India’s most successful bowler of all time, shot to fame after he grabbed a ten-four in the second Test against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He thus achieved what Jim Laker had done many years before his arrival into Test cricket. Albeit at the domestic level, Sidak Singh has therefore followed the footsteps of some stalwarts of the Gentleman’s Game. Bagging 10 wickets in an innings is not an easy task whatsoever, regardless of the level at which the game is being played.
Sidak Singh – a young sensation
The youngster has featured in seven T20s for Mumbai and has drawn attention for his action that very much resembles Bishan Singh Bedi. Sidak is also a very popular cricketer in the local circuit. His big break came in 2015 when he was still a U15 team player and was picked by Mumbai for the West Zone T20 Cricket Championship. Singh thus became the youngest player to be selected for the Mumbai senior side after Sachin Tendulkar – the Little Master was picked at the age of 14 in the 1980s.
However, Sidak got into substantial trouble after he was reported for a suspect bowling action by the BCCI on several occasions. In 2016 during a Vinoo Mankad Trophy fixture, he was reported for chucking for the third time in his career.
