Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has been hogging the headlines in the last few days. The southpaw backed out from playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). The 33-year-old returned to India, leaving a massive void in CSK’s middle-order. In the meantime, there were several reports on his sudden departure.

However, the veteran later cleared the air to some extent. Raina, CSK’s all-time top run-scorer, talked about a brutal attack on his family where his uncle was ‘brutally slaughtered to death’ and other family members also faced cruelty. After the incident, he requested Punjab Police to look into the matter and he also tagged Punjab CM Amarinder Singh in his posts.

His first tweet read, “What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had severe injuries. Unfortunately, my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days. My bua is still very very critical & is on life support.”

His second tweet read, “Till date we don’t know what exactly had happened that night & who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes @capt_amarinder @CMOPb,”

The Punjab CM took note of Raina’s tweet and immediately, asked for a SIT probe into the grave matter. He also pledged to take the guilty behind the bars for the horrendous crime.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Condole the brutal attack on kin of @ImRaina in Pathankot. Have ordered SIT probe into the case and have asked @DGPPunjabPolice to identify & arrest the culprits at the earliest. Beta, my DC & SSP have met the family and we will make sure that the guilty are brought to justice,”

As far as CSK is concerned, it was earlier learned that some of the team officials weren’t happy with the left-hander’s approach. Reports regarding Raina going to the 2021 IPL auction are also doing the rounds. The 2020 IPL is set to start on September 19 and CSK are looking to a batsman to fill in Raina’s massive shoes.
