With yet another big win in the tournament, the Falcon Hunters nearly confirmed their berth in the semifinals of the Qatar T10 League 2019. The Desert Riders too registered a morale-boosting win on Friday which nearly puts them in the semifinals, but they still are heavily reliant on some other results to finish in the top two.
The first game of the day was played between the Desert Riders and the Heat Stormers, where the former won the toss and decided to bowl first. Stormers posted a humongous total on the board batting first, which literally kept them in top contention to win the game. But they somehow managed to squander a golden opportunity.
Sikandar Raza scored a 41-ball 87 and remained unbeaten as they notched 134 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in their 10 overs. Scott Edwards chipped in with a crucial 11-ball 26. Kithuruwan Vithanage and Adnan Mirza chipped in with brilliant cameos for the Desert Riders in the run chase and they got the side nearly close to the winning mark.
Although the Stormers pulled things back in the death overs with some wickets, the Riders had enough quality in their lower order to sustain the pressure and score the winning runs off the final delivery. Adnan Mirza remained unbeaten on 51 for the Riders as they registered a five-wicket win.
Salman Butt and Mohammad Rizlan star for the Hunters
The discarded Pakistani opener Salman Butt got off to a fabulous start in the game between Falcon Hunters and Pearl Gladiators, where the Gladiators had won the toss and chose to bowl. Butt scored a 24-ball 39 and set a good platform for the other batsmen coming up.
Kamran Khan too chipped in with an important contribution, scoring 29 runs off 18 deliveries but the biggest star of their batting rendition was Mohammed Rizlan, who came out and changed the game’s complexion in 9 deliveries. Courtesy his 9-ball 37, Hunters scored 118 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Amad Butt and Iqbal Hussain were just too good with the ball in the run chase, who registered figures of 2/14 and 2/10 in their two overs. Adding to this was the spell from Waqas Maqsood, which accounted for 16 runs and a wicket in two overs. The Gladiators could only manage 81 runs in their 10 overs and handed a huge 37-run win for the Hunters.
