Cricket South Africa (CSA) is set to unleash a new experiment in 3TC format on Saturday with three teams of 8 players each taking on each other in one game. But top players missing out at the last moment might affect the popularity of the match. Kagiso Rabada who was named the captain of one of the teams earlier has pulled out along with Chris Morris. And now, even Quinton de Kock is set to miss the game to be played at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

CSA confirmed the news in a media release stating the reason for South Africa’s limited-overs captain’s absence as unforeseen personal circumstances. Temba Bavuma is set to take over the captaincy duties of the Mr D Food Kites team now. Meanwhile, De Kock will be replaced by the 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Rickleton.

The board has arranged this contest to raised the funds for people in the game who have suffered a lot financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What are the rules?

Though three top players have pulled out from the 3TC game, the fans will still have the likes of AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, David Miller among others taking the field. The three teams, OUTsurance Kingfishers, Mr D Food Kites and Takealot Eagles, will be led by De Villiers, Reeza Hendricks and Bavuma respectively.

As far as the rules are concerned, all the three teams will bat for 12 overs each in this 36-over contest. Each team will bat for six overs in two halves facing the bowlers of their two opponents. Each bowler has been allotted three overs. Batting order in the second half will be decided based on the scores made in the first half. The last batter alone can stay at the crease with him being allowed only to score runs in even numbers in order to retain the strike.

The team with maximum runs will win the Gold medal and while the other two teams will get Silver and Bronze medal respectively.
