Racism isn’t okay, one should never keep things bottled up: Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, has come down hard against racism, saying that instead of not speaking about it, one should always be vocal regarding the grave matter. Archer’s stern comments came after George Floyd, and African-American, lost his life on May 25. He was in police custody at Minneapolis in the United States of America (USA).

The speedster has himself had to face racial abuses in his short cricket career. Back in November last year, a fan hurled expletive at the bowler during the final day of the opening Test against New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Then in January, the spectator was banned for a couple of years. Archer told about opening up in case of a major issue.

“I’m very glad the Black Lives Matter campaign has got as vocal as this,” Archer, who made his England debut back in May 2019, wrote in his column for Daily Mail.

“As an individual, I’ve always been one for speaking out, especially if something bothers you. My personal view is that you should never keep things bottled up, because racism is not okay,” the Barbados-born stated.

Archer was a part of the 2019 World Cup-winning English squad, which consisted of players from different origins. The Brits team had players of South Africa, South Asia and New Zealand origins. Archer enjoys being a part of the Three Lions’ group.

“We all live in the country and if you are English, you have as much right to play as anyone else. There was a picture … of me, Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid hugging in celebration during the 2019 World Cup. It told you everything you need to know about our team,” he added.

Even their skipper, Eoin Morgan is an Irish and played for Ireland in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. After England won the World Cup last time, the southpaw told that they had Allah with them, as he was told by leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

“We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil (Rashid), he said Allah was definitely with us. I said we had the rub of the green,” Morgan had said.
