The 2018 Karnataka Assembly Elections will be staged in the month of May. Political parties like the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to overpower each other. With the elections knocking on the door, the parties can’t afford any complacency and blemishes, which may turn out to be a detriment to their campaign.
Meanwhile, the BJP have also approached eminent personalities in the form of cricketers like Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble, the Karnataka cricketers for standing in the elections. The step of roping in the former Indian cricketers has been taken in order to attract the youth in Karnataka. The two cricketers have a tremendous reputation as cricketers and their inclusion would definitely boost the campaign.
No to politics by Dravid and Kumble
According to reports in The Print, the BJP have trying hard to convince the legendary players. However, they have turned down the offers, much to the agony of the party. Nevertheless, despite their refusal, BJP are not ready to drop the gun. A source close to BJP has mentioned that they haven’t given up hopes of drafting in Dravid and Kumble.
“Talks are still on. At least one of them desires to be fielded for the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha. We have not lost all hope yet.” the source mentioned. Also, both of them refused to interact with the media regarding the matter. Anil Kumble is currently working with Star Sports as an analyst in the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is seen conducting pitch reports.
