Youngsters Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been the top batsmen for the Delhi Daredevils in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League. The duo once again put up a sensational partnership of 143 runs against Gujarat Lions to make the target of 209 a cakewalk. While Samson scored 61 off 31, Pant missed out on his century by 3 runs after he fell on 97 off 43. DD chased down 209 in 17.3 overs with 7 wickets to spare.

DD mentor Rahul Dravid, who is known to share a good rapport with young cricketers, had a piece of advice for Pant and Samson which was to not bat like him in the IPL. After the contest was over and the crowd dispersed, Dravid took over the microphone to interview Samson and Pant and Samson. He advised them that they should not watch videos of his batting when the target is as big as 209 in 20 overs.

“I am glad that when you were growing up you have learnt by actually watching me bat. Are you serious? (laughter). I used to bat exactly like that (smashing fours and sixes) (laughter again),” Dravid said. “I am glad that they have not been watching too many videos of me batting when you need 209 in 20 overs. “Well done boys. Terrific innings. Super stuff. Incredible innings from the two boys,” he added.

Dravid also applauded Pant for not giving too much importance to his century and going for a big shot even when he was only 3 runs short of 100.

“I am a hard taskmaster. I hope that next time you finish the job (run chase) and stay not out. Well done boys,” he concluded.

With this win, Delhi Daredevils keep their hopes alive of making it to the playoffs. They will next play the Mumbai Indians tomorrow and try and win their third consecutive game.
