Rahul Dravid is a great role model says Steve Smith: If there is one batsman who has milked the Indian bowlers to submission the entire summer leading into and also through the World Cup 2015 it’s, Australia and Rajasthan Royals (RR) batting star Steve Smith. Smith who is now in India playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) for RR is full of praises for Coach and Mentor, former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid.
He has continued his red hot form in the Pepsi IPL 2015 as well, playing important knocks for the Royals, in the 10 games thus far Smith has scored 195 runs at an average of 27.85.
Steve Smith along with Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane and Stuart Binny were at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai for a promotional event. Interacting with the media the Australian said, “It’s been good. We started well, winning our first five games, and then had a bit of a rough patch. The washouts slowed down our momentum a bit, and we won the last game. The most important thing is that we should be playing good cricket at the back-end of the event.”
On the role their mentor Dravid has behind the scenes in lifting the team back to winning ways after an intermediate slump and sharing his valuable inputs with the guys, Smith said, “He’s as experienced as you get. He’s a great role model for everyone here. A lot of the overseas players have been able to or pick his brain and learn about different things like how to bat in Indian conditions,”
Indian test skipper Virat Kohli did to Australia what Smith did to the Indian bowlers. He batted equally well, though Kohli could not lead the team to a single win in the test series, he surely won lot of praise for the quality of cricket he played. The rival skipper Smith also seems to have enjoyed his batting, when he was asked a question at the event about the Indian batting main stray,
“Look, Virat is a terrific player. He’s been one since coming onto the scene. He’s someone that I really like watching. He had a lot of success as well throughout the summer back home.” Smith said.
