Rahul Dravid reckons Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are a class above the rest of the modern day batsmen at the moment because of their consistency. The former Indian batsman showered praises on the current Indian skipper in particular saying Kohli has shown consistency not just in the limited-over formats, but in the Test format as well which is remarkable.

Kohli has recently surpassed Rahul Dravid’s tally of Test match double hundreds. While ‘The Wall’ scored 5 Test double tons during his whole career, Kohli has been able to score 6 in a space of just 17 months. Sharing his opinion on the top players in modern day Cricket on Sports Tak, Dravid said, “Kohli is playing very well. I will say he is one of the top batsmen in the world. We have to give him credit, because he is able to maintain consistency across the three formats. It is very difficult at this level, at this standard. According to me, apart from Kohli, Steve Smith has also been consistent across formats.” Dravid added.

Kohli churning out runs every year

Kohli has been piling up runs in an unbelievable fashion since being given the responsibility of captaining the side. He has scored more than two and a half thousand runs across all formats in the current calendar year. He had done the same in the previous calendar year as well and has now become the first batsman ever to cross the 2500-run mark in two consecutive calendar years.

If Kohli had not been given rest in the Sri Lanka ODI and T20I series, he would have been able to register another World record to his name. He scored a total of 2768 international runs in 2017, if he had scored another 51 runs; he would have become the highest run scorer in a single calendar year breaking Kumar Sangakkara’s record of 2818 runs.

Steve Smith batted beautifully in test matches in 2017

Steve Smith though has not quite managed to score runs as consistently as Kohli in limited-over Cricket this year, but in Test Cricket, he has been as good as Kohli, if not better. His tally of Test runs in 2017 stands at 888 and that includes 4 hundreds out of which 3 came on a very difficult India tour.
