Rahul Dravid says Shikhar Dhawan deserves a chance

Rahul Dravid says Shikhar Dhawan deserves a chance: Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan after a string of failures first in the 4 tests Border-Gavaskar trophy and now in the first three matches of the Carlton Mid tri-series finds himself in the toughest of positions with a sword hanging well over his head. He has over the Australian summer failed completely against the moving ball and is to be blamed for poor starts that the team has had.

Not only once but on multiple occasions not even reached the double digits before walking back to the pavilion. The under fire opener adds to the pressure MS Dhoni and the Indian team management is under as the biggest battle the ICC cricket world cup 2015 is around the corner as well. And one can surely notice the willingness of the team to look out for option.

In time when Dhawan is cornered from all sections from fans, by the media and expert former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has come up to back the struggling Jat from Delhi. At a promotion event in Mumbai when Dravid was questioned about the issue he said, “He’s earned the right for people to be patient with him in limited-overs cricket. His performance in the last one half years has been very good.

“He deserves the chance; he’s has been selected for what he’s done in the last one and years. He needs a few more runs, but he should not be judged on the basis of a few matches. All of us should back him.”

“By the business end of the tournament, if he is in form, he will be your most valuable player. May be playing a different kind of opposition, he will get back into form’

One can relate this statement from Dravid with the fact that though not many had backed Dhawan to do well in the England during the Champions Trophy but to the teams delight everyone he was the star performer and led the heat to the opposition bowlers right from the start of the innings which helped India big time in title triumph. It will be interesting to see the approach that the management adopts towards him now towards the end of the tri-series and as the world cup 2015 fast approaches.
