Rahul Dravid has started his tenure as team India’s head coach from the ongoing home series against New Zealand. India’s former cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently opened up on his appointment. He has stated that Dravid will not get carried away with success and that one will not witness a lot of big statements coming in as well.

India is scheduled to play three-match T20I series and two Test matches against the Black Caps. Ahead of the start of the first T20I, Gambhir reckoned that Dravid is a balanced person and alongside Rohit Sharma, he will bring in a lot of success to Indian cricket.

“One thing with Rahul Dravid is he will not get carried away with all the success. And probably there will not be a lot of big statements which will be made after success as well which is very important because sometimes, as a young group of players can get carried away with this kind of statements which we were used to in the last two years from the team management.

Rahul will be very, very balanced. Now he has got Rohit Sharma who is itself a very balanced guy. I hope the combination brings a lot of success to Indian cricket,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Things will not change in one or two series: Gautam Gambhir

Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were on their last assignment as team India’s T20I  skipper and head coach respectively in the T20 World Cup 2021. Under them, the team enjoyed some good success across formats. However, they were placed under the scanner for not tasting the ICC trophy glory in their tenure.

With Dravid now taking up the responsibility, Gambhir said that one needs to be realistic with their expectations. He stated that things will not experience a sudden change within just a few series.

“Assurance, a lot of hard work, and a lot of discipline as well (things that Dravid brings to the table). At the same time, we need to be realistic with our expectations as well. Things will not change in one or two series. I know there will be a lot of expectations from Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma because we haven’t achieved a lot of success in ICC tournaments,” Gambhir added.
