KL Rahul, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is playing in exceptional form with the bat. He has done tremendously well in white-ball cricket lately. After Rohit Sharma got ruled out from the Test series against New Zeland, fans had expected that the selectors will pick the 27-year-old Karnataka batsman as a replacement but that was not the case. Rahul still needs to wait for his opportunity in the red-ball cricket.

Rohit Sharma sustained a calf injury during the 5th and final T20I against New Zealand. The injury has turned out to be serious due to which the opener was ruled out from the upcoming Test and ODI series. KL Rahul was touted as a suitable replacement for Team India as far as his form was concerned.

The 29-year-old registered scores of 47, 80 and 19 against Australia in the ODI series. Rahul replicated his form against BlackCaps in the shorter format in which he muscled 224 runs in five games with two amazing fifties.

KL Rahul not picked for New Zealand Tests

On Monday, the Indian selectors announced the squad for two-match Test series against New Zealand. And, surprisingly they picked Shubhman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw as the openers in the team ahead of KL Rahul. It looked like the selectors still have their doubts whether the Karanataka batsman can perform well in the longer format.

There is no doubt over the fact that Rahul has struggled a lot in Test format. From the year 2018, he has scored 468 runs in 15 games at an average around 22. The right-hander made his debut back in 2014 against Australia in the longer format and he did convincingly well during the early phase of his career.

But, a sudden dip in the form ruled him out from the national side. He played his last Test match appearance back in 2019 against West Indies in which he scored 13 and 6. After getting dropped from the team, he improved his game and came out with impressive performances in the white-ball cricket.

The fans were not impressed with selectors as they left Rahul out from the Test squad that will lock horns with New Zealand. Hence, they stormed social media showing their disappointment over the same.
