It is not good news for cricket fans as the third Test match between India and Sri Lanka is threatened by the possibility of rainfall. The ground is already under the protection of the covers because of the rain hit Kandy. The situation does not look too good for the team who gets to bat first. The pitch will be filled with moisture and it will be a tough task for the batsmen to survive the first session.

The Kandy surface is bound to test the batsmen more than the Galle and SSC pitches did. India dealt with the Sri Lankan bowlers with ease in both the matches where the pitches were batsman friendly to the batsman. India managed to score 600 runs in both the first and the second Test batting first. There is no doubt over the fact that Kandy won’t be that easy.

The equation:

Skipper Virat Kohli is on the brink of making history if he manages to win the third Test at Pallekele. It will be the first time India will perform a clean sweep over Sri Lanka in the island nation and will be a remarkable achievement for Kohli. It will also be 5 wins in a row for Kohli against the Lions, something which legendary captains like Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni could not do. However, nothing of this will happen if the rain gods decide to interrupt the proceedings which seem to be a great possibility at the moment.

India will be without the services of Ravindra Jadeja in the third Test. Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav was the first choice to replace the all-rounder but in an amazing turn around of events, Axar Patel is now leading the race to fill in the spot. But there might be a situation where an extra seamer could come in place of Jadeja if the pitch is green. A green pitch will allow swing to rule the match which might force Kohli to include Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the side.
