It was a day of high scores at the Ranji Trophy on Sunday as a total of 7 teams registered over 400 runs in the first innings in their respective games. From Saurashtra dismantling Jammu & Kashmir to Bengal ripping apart Chattisgarh, it was quite an eventful day 2. Unfortunately for Ambati Rayudu’s Hyderabad, they are yet to face a ball in this year’s championship due to the adverse weather conditions in Hyderabad.

Ravindra Jadeja registered a mind-boggling double-ton on day 2 and Saurashtra went past the 600-run mark with ease. With contributions from Snell Patel (94 off 167 balls) and few cameos from the tail, their score escalated after the lunch break and helped them finish at 624/7 in 135 overs before declaring. Jammu & Kashmir was reduced to 103/4 before the end of the day’s play.

Defending champions Gujarat are well and truly battling it out against Kerala, but Chirag Gandhi’s unbeaten 91 off 142 balls has helped them take a 99-run lead in the first innings. Resuming at 60/2 on day 2, Kerala bowlers did fight it out hard to ensure they don’t get the lead, but they failed to do so. Opener Samil Gohel was another key contributor with a gritty 69.

Madhya Pradesh aims for a something extravagant as they posted a formidable 409 in the first innings against Mumbai. Naman Ojha fired a breathtaking 180 off 410 balls as they posted a big total. In reply, Mumbai got a strong start thanks to Jay Gokul Bist’s 96-ball 89* as they finished day 2 at 130/1, trailing their counterparts by 279 runs.

Ishant Sharma’s crackling spell gives Delhi a good start with the ball

Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma refuses to give up his place in the Indian side as he fired in a crackling spell on Sunday. In 11 overs, he picked up 3 wickets giving away 12 runs. Railways got reduced to 58-5 in 33 overs. Manan Sharma’s hundred and half-centuries from Nitish Rana, Anuj Rawa, and Pulkit Narang propelled Delhi to 447 in their first innings before getting bowled out on day 2.

Washington Sundar once again bagged the limelight as he scored a brilliant 156 off 223 balls and he remained not out on day 2. Tamil Nadu killed the fighting total posted Tripura thanks to a century from Washington Sundar and fifties from skipper Abhinav Mukund and Baba Indrajith. Tripura got bowled out for 258 in their first innings and Tamil Nadu raced off to 332/2 in 81 overs.

Sanjay Ramaswamy’s 161 and Ganesh Satish’s 126-run unbeaten knock saw Vidarbha take a gigantic 258-run first innings lead against Punjab. Punjab’s agonizing start to the season continues as they’re on the verge of conceding three points or more yet again.Vidarbha finished at 419 at the end of the day’s play and they lost just five wickets.
