The first two games in the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy have still not ended. These matches, one in between Vidarbha and Uttarakhand and the other between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra will extend to the fifth day of play. In the other game, Karnataka defeated Rajasthan to make progress into the next stage of the tournament. Kerala is already through to the semi-final.

It was indeed heartening to see a Plate group team like Uttarakhand giving a tough competition to a champion side like Vidarbha. Vidarbha, who resumed the innings at 559/6 were ultimately bowled out for 629 runs, thus gaining a monumental first innings lead. Uttarakhand was going well initially in their second innings. But, two quick wickets towards the close of play pushed them onto the backfoot. They still trail by 122 runs and Vidarbha will be pushing for a win at all costs.

In the second quarterfinal of the Ranji Trophy, the match seems to be inclined in favour of the Saurashtra team. The side finished the day at 195/2 with Harvik Desai going strong at one end. He concluded the day with an unbeaten 83 and will want to put head down and add to that total on the last day. With Cheteshwar Pujara yet to walk out to bat, Saurashtra will fancy the chances of getting another 177 runs on Day 5.

Manish Pandey, Karun Nair steer Karnataka to a win

With just 139 runs required to win the match, Karnataka was sure to make it into the semis. But, Rajasthan put up a good fightback in the last innings of the match. The bowlers claimed four wickets in the innings and put the former Ranji champions under pressure. But, Manish Pandey and Karun Nair kept their cool and made the most of their experience. While the former was unbeaten on 87, his partner looked rock solid with a 61* to help the team win the match by 6 wickets.
