The second round of the ongoing 2019-20 edition of the Ranji Trophy finished on Friday and we got to see pulsating cricket across the length and breadth of the country. In the Elite C encounter between Chattisgarh and Uttarakhand, the former pulled off a sensational heist when they pulled of an innings & 65 run win in Raipur.

After having bowled Uttarakhand for 120 thanks to three-wicket hauls from Puneet Datey and Ajay Jadav Mandal, Chattisgarh too found themselves in a spot of bother after they were reduced to 6-121. But, a marathon 399-run stand between Amandeep Khare [192] and Ajay Jadhav Mandal, who scored an unbeaten 241, helped Chattisgarh to post 7-520 declared. Mandal was at it again with the bowl, whose five-wicket haul meant Uttarakhand were bowled our for 335 to hand Chattisgarh a win by an innings and 65 runs.

Defending champions Vidarbha continued with their imperious form in Round 02 against Rajasthan. After having posted 8-510 in the first innings thanks to hundreds from each of Faiz Fazal [136], Mohit Kale [138] and Akshay Wadkar [111], Vidarbha proceeded to bowl Rajasthan twice for 260 and 190 respectively to rack up victory by an innings and 60 runs.

Himachal Pradesh hand a shock defeat to Tamil Nadu

In what is already the upset of the season, Himachal Pradesh pulled off a sensational 71-run-win over Tamil Nadu. After Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-wicket-haul had restricted Himachal Pradesh to 158 all-out, the latter’s bowlers came to the party big time. Spearheaded by Vaibhav Arora’s three-wicket-haul, Himachal Pradesh proceeded to rout Tamil Nadu for a mere 96, to gain a vital 98-run lead.

They added another 154 runs to their lead of 98 and posted a target of 252 for Tamil Nadu. The southern heavyweights batted a bit better than they had done in the first innings, but it was clearly not enough as they were eventually bowled out for 145 in 67.5 overs.

Bengal swatted aside Kerala with disdain in their, Round 02 encounter in Thiruvananthapuram. After having posted 307 in reply to Kerala’s first-innings total of 239, the Bengal bowlers proceeded to bowl the home side out for 115 with Arnab Nandi and Shahbaz Ahmed claiming three wickets each. The target of 50 was never going to be a problem, and it didn’t as skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran steered Bengal past the finishing line.
