The fourth round of the ongoing 2019-20 Ranji Trophy- comprising many enthralling games- kicked off across the length and breadth of the country today.

The game between Services and Maharashtra in Elite Group C hogged the headlines due to a staggering performance from Services bowling force. Services bowlers’ wreaked havoc on Maharashtra‘s batting attack and swept them up on a meagre total of 44 runs. Poonam Poonia, who scalped five wickets in his spell, was the pick of the bowlers. He was assisted by Diwesh Pathania and Sachidanand Pandey, who scalped two and three wickets respectively.

In reply, Services was able to amass 141 runs on the board on the back of formidable batting display from Ravi Chauhan and Rajat Paliwal. Services have now established a 97-run lean on the first day itself. Another stalwart batting highlight of the day was from Riyan Parag in the match between Uttarakhand and Assam. Parag mustered 104 runs to propel Assam to the score of 237/5 on the completion of the first day.

In the match between Bihar and Mizoram, Pratik Desai stole the show with his blistering knock of 192 runs. He was assisted by Taruwar Kohli, who remained unbeaten on 88 runs. On the back of these two performances, Mizoram was able to amass a commendable total of 310 runs on the first day.

Suryakumar Yadav continues his run-scoring spree

Maharashtra’s Vijesh Prabhudessai (6 wickets) and opener Sumiran Amonkar (115 runs) hogged the spotlight for their impressive performances. In the clash between Hyderabad and Kerala, Mohammed Siraj and Ravi Kiran showed their forte by scalping two and three wickets respectively to curb Kerala to the score of 126/7.

Gurkeerat Singh Mann steered Punjab‘s batting force by playing a vital 65-run knock against Delhi. Skipper Mandeep Singh also smashed 81 runs to propel Punjab to the score of 266/8. Mandeep Singh and Co have laid a strong foundation ahead of the second day of the match.

Mumbai’s skipper Suryakumar Yadav continued his sensational form as he smashed 77 runs to help his side post 194 runs on the scoreboard. Karnataka, who posted 79 runs before the end of the day, are now trailing by 115 runs. In the encounter between Baroda and Railways, Deepak Hooda emerged as the pick of Baroda batsmen as he scored 86 runs to guide Baroda to post 201 runs on the board. In reply, Railways- after losing two early wickets- are reeling at 24/2.
