Ranji Trophy 2019-20: Round 5, Day 4- Round-up

The fourth round of the ongoing 2019-20 Ranji Trophy- culminated after many enthralling games on Day 4 of Round 5. After many teams including Kerala and Bihar registering victories on Day 3 itself, remaining sides hustled it on the fourth day.

Maharashtra cruised to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory on Day 4 after decimating Jharkhand at a total of 311 runs. Kumar Suraj emerged as the solitary warrior for Jharkhand as he stitched a vital knock of 92 runs. Maharashtra’s Satyajeet Bachhav wreak havoc as he scalped four wickets to dismantle Jharkhand’s bowling force. He was assisted by Mukesh Choudhary, who also scalped three crucial wickets.

Meanwhile, the encounter between Tripura and Uttarakhand resulted in a draw and Manisankar Murasingh was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance in both the innings.

Jammu and Kashmir also cruised to the victory in the third session of Day 4 after restricting Services to a total of 146 runs. Services batsmen succumbed to the wrath of Jammu and Kashmir bowlers comprising the likes of Mohammed Mudhasir, Umar Nazir Mir and Aquib Nabi. Skipper Parvez Rasool also scalped three wickets, playing a vital role in his side’s triumph. He was also awarded Man of the Match for his impressive performance in both the departments.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s heroics turned futile as Saurashtra had to settle for a draw after a formidable batting display by Karnataka in their second innings. Karnataka’s top-order trio of Rohan Kadam, Ravikumar Samarth and Devdutt Padikkal steered Karnataka to a solid start in the second innings. Cheteshwar Pujara was awarded Man of the Match for his impressive 248-run knock.

The highly-anticipated encounter between Tamil Nadu and Mumbai also resulted in a draw. Mumbai’s Aditya Tare smashed 154 in Mumbai’s 1st innings to steer his side to a massive total of 488 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin also grabbed the headlines after scoring a crucial 79-run knock in Tamil Nadu’s 1st innings. Mumbai grabbed three points courtesy their first innings lead while Tamil Nadu clinched one point.
