Since its inception in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has emerged as not only the biggest franchise league but also the richest cricket event. IPL is known for its commercial success and the huge amount of money that is involved in running the tournament smoothly.

The one thing that makes IPL stand out among other franchise leagues for the players is the huge pay-checks and the glamour of fancy endorsements. Across its 13-year history, the T20 Championship has observed many rags-to-riches journeys as the franchise owners don’t shy away from spending a few crores on the potential young talent or international stars.

The IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals occupies the last spot in terms of money spent on the players in the auction in their 14-year history in the league. The 2008 champions have shelled out just INR 524.29 Crores in the auction and have managed to sign foreign players like Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Jofra Archer, and Jos Buttler.

At present, all-rounder Ben Stokes and captain Steve Smith are their most expensive players as RR retained both the players for a whopping INR 12.5 crore each ahead of the 13th edition of T20 Extravaganza.

The team had a torrid run in IPL 2020 as for the first time, they finished at the eight position in the points table with just 12 points under their belt in 14 fixtures.
