Now that we know that the Black cards are very difficult to get hands-on, let us know a little more about one of the terrific players who is a part of the rare edition. The Caribbean all-rounder, the power-hitter, and one of the finest finishers of the game- he is none other than Trinbago Knight Riders’ Andre Russell.

Let us relive the three best knocks of Russell throughout the CPL editions so far-

  1. 121*(49) vs Trinbago Knight Riders, 2018

Russell’s brilliant performance against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2018 was noteworthy, with both the bat and the ball. It may serve as a model for power-hitting all-rounders of the 20-over format all over the world. First, he bagged a hat-trick in the first innings by dismissing Brendon McCullum, Darren Bravo, and Denesh Ramdin. As the skipper of the side, he then smashed an incredible 49-ball 121 for his team, including six fours and 13 sixes, to secure the victory with four wickets and three balls remaining.

  1. 100(42) vs Trinbago Knight Riders, 2016

Russell recorded the then-fastest CPL hundred in the team’s must-win Qualifier match against TKR, scoring it off just 42 balls. The swashbuckling batter came in at 67/4 in the tenth over, and during his blitz, he hit three fours and 11 sixes, helping the team reach a solid 195/7. Russell helped his team easily advance to the final by dismissing Brendon McCullum and Kevon Cooper in a three-over spell when he took charge of the bowling attack. It was a crucial fixture for the team, and they stormed through the semi-finals, thereby defeating Guyana Amazon in the finals and lifting the cup that year.

  1. 50*(14) vs St. Lucia Kings, 2021

The quickest fifty in CPL history was scored by Russell against St. Lucia Kings in Basseterre last year when he hit an undefeated fiery 50 off 14 balls with three fours and six sixes. With 17 balls left, the right-hander came out when his team was at 199/3 and punished left-arm seamers Wahab Riaz and Obed McCoy as the final two overs produced 32 and 22 runs, respectively, to push Jamaica Tallawahs to 255/5, the second-highest score in the history of CPL.
