Rashid Khan calls it a great honour to be playing for the World XI against Windies

The World XI team is scheduled to play West Indies in a charity T20 match on May 31 at the Lord’s to raise funds for rebuilding stadiums in the Caribbean that were destroyed by the hurricanes last year. Afghanistan leg-spinner and the number one seeded bowler in the T20I format Rashid Khan has confirmed his participation for the match and has, in fact, said that it is a matter of pride for him to be playing at the Lord’s.

Among others who will be playing the match are India’s Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik along with veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal from Bangladesh. From Pakistan two of their greatest all-rounders Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik will feature for the World XI whereas Thisara Perera from Sri Lanka is the only player from the Island nation.

Irrespective of the current situation Windies is one of the oldest teams that has been playing the game and Rashid takes it as a great honour to be playing a match that will help West Indies cricket.

“It is a matter of great honour and pride for me and my country that I have been chosen to support one of cricket’s oldest and most loyal members,” Rashid said.

He further praised Windies and said that the previous generations from the Caribbean have inspired and continues to inspire youngsters to play this sport.

“I don’t think it will be incorrect to say that a number of cricketers from this and previous generations were inspired and attracted to cricket due to the heroics of the West Indies sides of the 70s, 80s and 90s. And if the West Indies are now looking upon us for help, then there shouldn’t be any hesitation,” Rashid added.

He also tweeted – “It’s really a big honour and pride for me and my country to play for World 11 in next month may 31 in a beautiful and historical ground Lords”
