Afghanistan cricketers have lit up the stage so far around the world cricket thanks to the way they have improved over the years. Two of their top cricketers Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have made a name for themselves by playing extremely well in the T20 leagues. In the last few months though more players have come up from the country and one of them is a swashbuckling batsman Hazratullah Zazai.
He hogged the headlines after hitting six sixes in a single over in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) while playing for Kabul Zwanan. With the blitzkrieg, he also joined Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle to score a 12-ball half-century. Speaking about the same, Zazai said that he wasn’t thinking about the six sixes at all and only decided to go for the record after hitting five out of the park.
“It was when I hit the five sixes that I decided to hit the sixth one as well. Before that, I hadn’t even thought of hitting the bowler for six sixes. We were just going after the target. But after the fifth sixer, I decided I must hit the sixth one as well,” he was quoted as saying by The Quint.
Eyeing an IPL contract
Hazratullah Zazai now is targetting an Indian Premier League (IPL) in the upcoming auction and admits that it is a dream for him to play in the cash-rich league in which most of the international cricketers participate. However, the explosive opener also informed that he attended the trials of the Kings XI Punjab recently and would love to play in the league next year.
“A few weeks back I’d gone to Punjab to give a trial for Kings XI Punjab. Every cricketers’, especially T20 cricketers, dream is to play in the IPL. The amount of the contract is not important. It could be 1 lakh, 10 lakh or 1 crore. What’s important is to get the contract and play in the league,” the 20-year-old added.
As far as the IPL contract is concerned, Rashid Khan is confident that Hazratullah Zazai will get one this time thanks to his big hitting skills. “I asked Rashid whether I have a chance at getting into the IPL. He said, there’s an 80 or 90 percent chance. He also tells me to be confident, and says self-confidence is important,” Zazai further said.
