England won their erstwhile match versus Australia in Cardiff by a margin of 38 runs. The hosts were clinical and notched a 2-0 lead in the series and are in a strong position to clinch the same as they are only one win away in the five-match affair. Jason Roy and Jos Buttler scored 120 and 91* runs respectively to notch a massive score of 342 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Roy floundered in the first match but looked in no trouble whatsoever against Tim Paine’s men. He stayed at the crease till the 36th over and laid the platform for the humungous score for their opponents to chase down. Buttler couldn’t perform well in London but made amends for the poor knock at the KIA Oval by scoring 91 runs in 70 balls. He took charge at the fall of Joe Root’s wicket in the 28th over.

Buttler’s brilliance with the willow

The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes in his knock and injected impetus into the English innings. The hosts lost quite a few wickets in the dying stages, but Buttler didn’t throw his wicket away and ensured that his team doesn’t experience any stutter. During the run chase, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals that always kept them behind in the race.

Shaun Marsh, the Western Australian-batsman, tried his heart out with a masterful knock of 131 runs from 116 balls, but couldn’t save the day for his side. He was dismissed by Liam Plunkett in the 46th over after which it was all over bar the shouting.

Following the win, Buttler took to Instagram and applauded the team for their stupendous victory. “Fantastic win! Delighted for @jasonroy20 with an incredible and great effort from the bowlers all round! #engvsaus”
