A scintillating batting display from Australian skipper Steve Smith and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh demolished all English hopes in the ongoing third Ashes Test at the WACA. Following, what could be heralded as clear dominance Australia have moved within sight of regaining the urn after the duo fixed England to the sword, pushing the visitors to the edge of no return.

Smith, who has spent close to nine-and-a-half hours at the crease after batting through the third day, left some of the greats of the game in awe with an epic double century, his second, while Marsh silenced his critics with his maiden Test ton. And now, the dynamic skipper has earned a new fan in Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan. The 19-year-old spinner who has successfully plied his trade in the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise even put out a tweet to compliment the Aussie on his exuberant knock.

Soon after Rashid put out the Tweet, Australia’s vice-captain David Warner took to his account to acknowledge Rashid’s tweet. Warner put out a witty text saying, “Good to see you’re supporting the good guys.”

Afghanistan to play India for the first time ever

In a first-ever, India will host Afghanistan for a Test in 2019-2020 calendar year. Afghanistan earned their Test status alongside Ireland earlier in the year, in June. Both the nations were inducted as full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June, becoming the sport’s 11th and 12h Test-playing nations.

Apart from welcoming them into five-day cricket, the BCCI has also extended a helping hand to Afghanistan on a number of occasions. The team from the war-ravaged nation has hosted its home games in India, most recently the series against Ireland in Greater Noida.

Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi became the first two Afghanistan cricketers to be bought at the IPL auction earlier this year.
