Even as India celebrated their dominating victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup on September 19, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar did not forget to wish ace Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan on the eve of his birthday. Khan is also playing in the Asia Cup at the moment and will take on India in a few day’s time in the Super Four stage.

Rashid, who turned 20 on Thursday, picked two wickets for his team against Sri Lanka in a group game which Afghanistan won by 91 runs to go to the next stage. It was a memorable last outing for him as a teenager and with the match against Bangladesh lined up for Thursday, he will look forward to making it a memorable birthday as well.

Tendulkar, 45, tweeted, “Happy Birthday, @RashidKhan_19! May you have a very long and illustrious cricketing career.” The wish was appreciated by several Afghanistan cricket fans.

Fastest bowler to pick 100 ODI wickets

Rashid Khan, the fastest bowler on the planet to pick 100 wickets in ODIs (44 games), currently has 110 scalps from 48 outings. He averages 14.20 and has four five-wicket hauls in the 50-over variant with the best bowling figures of 7 for 18. In the T20Is, the birthday boy has 64 wickets from 35 games at an average of 12.40 to go with one fifer (best bowling figures of 5/3).

Rashid is no mug with the bat either as he has 602 runs in ODIs with two fifties. He also has one first-class and a couple of List A half-centuries.

He has played only one Test so far, which was also Afghanistan’s debut game in whites against India in June. He, however, had a far less impressive outing in the longer format as he took two wickets in the only innings he bowled at an ordinary average if 77. However, we can always hope for the bowler to improve with his age with the red ball.
