The Indian squad for their upcoming T20 International triangular series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has recently been announced. The Indian domestic season is currently on its way and several names from the teams have performed exceptionally for their teams. However, one player has stood out- Mayank Agarwal of Karnataka.

The opening batsman has been in stupendous form throughout the season, however, the selectors overlooked him for the upcoming T20 series. The decision eyebrows as he was among the standout players in the erstwhile fixtures. However, an official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India explained the reasons for Mayank’s exclusion from the squad.

“Mayank has not been selected because we are following a pattern. Any domestic performer will have to play India A before being considered for senior team selection,” a senior BCCI official close to the selection panel was quoted as saying to the Press Trust of India (PTI) in a recent chat with the media.

The rich vein of form for Mayank

Mayank Agarwal has been an integral element of the Karnataka team for several years. Currently, he is one of their gun batsmen in all formats. The right-hander scored 1160 runs at an awe-inspiring average of 105.45 with the highest score of 304 not out against Maharashtra. The swashbuckling cricketer has also shown decent form in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he scored 258 runs at an average of 28.66.

The cricketer is currently plying his trade in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the ongoing tournament, he has scored 633 runs in seven games thus far at an average of 90.42. Moreover, he has three centuries against Baroda, Hyderabad and Odisha respectively. He also has three half-centuries in his kitty.

Meanwhile, the Nidahas trophy starts on March 6 where India will play Sri Lanka for the opening game at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
