The fourth Test of the Ashes began in fine fashion as Australia dominated the proceedings on the first day. The crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground were entertained by opener David Warner who looked in brilliant touch notching up a 21st Test hundred. Warner reached his century from 130 balls, having hit 13 fours and a straight six in the over before lunch to bring up the team hundred.

Talk of the town

The talk of the town was skipper Steve Smith who has been in sublime form in recent times, Smith is having an Ashes to remember as he went on to get another fifty on the Boxing Day. Steve Smith is batting on 65* at the end of the first day’s play. Smith managed his way to a half-century in a convincing, calm and composed way.

The 28-year-old looks really comfortable at the crease, his across the stumps movement is a tiring sign for all bowlers in world cricket. His heroic transition from being a leg-spinner to being Australia’s premier batsman is well known to every cricket fan around the world.

Earlier this year, Smith played tremendously in India on spinning tracks. Ravichandran Ashwin the Indian off-spinner praised Smith for his fabulous batting. Ashwin stated in his tweet that ”One-day teams will need to talk to Steve Smith prior to a Test match and settle down on a number that both parties agree upon. Insane Stuff ”. Ashwin meant that it is inevitable that Smith will score in each and every game.

Australia has already regained the Ashes urn by beating England 3-0 in the first three Tests of the series. Australia is on top in the ongoing fourth Test of the series as well, England will need to dismiss Smith cheaply tomorrow otherwise the game is likely to drift away in favour of the Kangaroos.
