Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri was not impressed with the way his role was portrayed in the biopic of Mohammad Azharuddin titled ‘Azhar’. The movie has already grabbed a lot of attention and hasn’t gone down well with many people.

The character of Ravi Shastri is shown as a flamboyant playboy who even goes on to cheat on his wife during a cricket tour. Ravi Shastri looked particularly upset with this part of the movie. The movie that is directed by Tony D’Souza and has Emraan Hashmi playing the lead role, does not use the full names of the cricketers but the first names have been retained.

So it is not a very tough task for anyone to figure out who the players are in the movie. For anyone knowing a bit about the players of that generation, it is easy to make out which player is being portrayed. While Azharuddin, Kapil Dev, and Rahul Dravid have been shown in the bright light; the likes of Manoj Prabhakar and Vinod Kambli have been shown as the ones vulnerable to match fixing.

According to the reports in Times of India, Shastri and his family are utterly disappointed with this and have even reported the issue to the cricket authorities. The reports also state that Shastri’s portrayal in the film is an image of Azharuddin’s personal equations with Shastri. The infamous sting operation by Manoj Prabhakar that had led to Azhar’s match-fixing charges had Ravi Shastri saying several things about Azharuddin and his portrayal in the film is tipped as Azharuddin’s way of getting back at his former teammate.

Ravi Shastri’s role is being played by Gautam Gulati of the Big Boss 8 fame.

The movie released on 13 May and has got reasonably good collections at the box office.
