Ravi Shastri lauds the groundstaff, calls Thiruvananthapuram a class venue

Thiruvananthapuram hosted its first ever T20I international yesterday, 7th November. Rain threatened to dampen the mood but the cricket lovers got to witness an eight-over thriller. Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri lauded his boys’ efforts and also thanked the crowd for being a sport. India went on to win the nail-biting match by 6 runs and also lifted the trophy.

New Zealand came very close to winning both finals but they will have to go back empty-handed while the opposition skipper Virat Kohli will be impressed with the way his men played the game. Kane Williamson won the toss and sent India in to bat first. The hosts lost wickets at regular short intervals and managed to post 67/5 on the board. Manish Pandey top-scored for India with 17 while Tim Southee was brilliant with the bowl, picking two wickets and conceding just 13 runs in his two over-spell.

Chasing 68 from 8 overs, the Blackcaps fumbled initially, as both the openers were back in the hut within the first two overs. India’s Jasprit Bumrah was at his best, as he conceded just nine runs and picked up two crucial wickets. The visitors faltered and managed to score 61/6 in their allotted eight overs.

Shastri is impressed

Shastri, who was watching all the actions from the dressing room, was highly impressed by the manner in which India executed their plan on the field and he tweeted- “Well done boys at a class venue where groundstaff were brilliant & crowd sensational in size colour & behaviour.Way to go Thiruvananthapuram.”

Clearly, the ‘boss’ had a good time in the ‘God’s own country’ and it seems the scenic city will host many more matches in the coming time. Many of the New Zealand cricketers too, posted pictures from the beautiful cricketing venue and it looks like Thiruvananthapuram has left a bright impression among all.
