In a recent incident on Twitter, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jason Holder were seen sharing their view about the controversial topic of ‘Mankading.’

Holder wished to convey that bowlers should use the ‘Mankading’ form of dismissal more frequently. Jason Holder referred to an incident from the England-South Africa match last Friday, where Moeen Ali was seen way outside of his crease as Kagiso Rabada was bowling.

Holder tweeted an image from the 19th over of the England innings in the match, which shows Moeen Ali well outside his crease as Kagiso Rabada is bowling. England needed 11 to win off 12 balls at that stage, and a wicket could have changed the course of the game.

Few weeks earlier, the West Indies U-19 team was caught in a controversy after youngster Keemo Paul had controversially mankaded and run out Zimbabwean Richard Ngawara. The match was crucial knockout game and West Indies won the match as a result of the run out. There was a lot of criticism which rained down on the youngster Keemo Paul for having resorted to ‘Mankading’, and the term ‘spirit of cricket’ was thrown about a lot.

“I’m sure based on the reactions from the U-19 WC, I as the bowler should allow this to happen. Madness.”

Ashwin replied to Holder’s tweet, saying it was unfortunate how cricketers need to make peace with popular opinion.

“Unfortunate ways of living with popular opinions.”

Popular cricket expert and commentator Harsha Bhogle also noticed the tweet and agreed with both the cricketers.

Incidentally, Holder and Ashwin were two cricketers who had defended the youngster Keemo Paul back then while many other present and ex-cricketers openly stated that the action was against the spirit of game.
