The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is just days away and all eight teams are busy finalizing their plans and strategies. Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings are definitely one of the teams to watch out for in the UAE leg as they were nothing but exceptional in the initial half. With five wins in seven games, they were second in the team standings at the time of suspension.

While CSK did well as a unit, skipper MS Dhoni wasn’t at his prime with the bat. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed just 37 runs in seven appearances at a dismal average of 12.33. With the mega auction taking place next year and Dhoni being 40, many believe CSK shouldn’t retain him and look for a different captaincy option. While Suresh Raina is the current vice-captain of the side, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has expressed his desire to lead the side.

Recently, a fan page of Chennai Super Kings posted the burning question on Twitter. “Who would be your pick to captaining the CSK team after MS Dhoni?” read the tweet. After coming across the post, Jadeja came up with a cheeky reply and commented ‘8’. For the unversed, 8 is Jadeja’s jersey number. In a surprising turn of events, Jadeja decided to delete the tweet later. However, the fans were quick enough to take a screenshot.

Ravindra Jadeja has been a vital cog of CSK team

Although the all-rounder has deleted his sensational comment, he might well be in line to become Dhoni’s successor. Playing international cricket since 2009, the southpaw has a plethora of experience behind his back. Moreover, he can serve in all the departments. While his accurate left-arm spin bowling chokes the scoring rate, his big-hitting has helped CSK on numerous occasions. Not to forget, Jadeja can also create magic on the field.

Adding to this, Jadeja was in red-hot form earlier this season. In seven matches, he scored 131 runs with his strike rate being over 160. He also took six wickets at a sensational economy rate of 6.7. Hence, the CSK owners have all the reasons to hand over the reins to Jadeja once Dhoni hangs up his boots. It has to be noted CSK current vice-captain Suresh Raina has also retired from international cricket. This makes Jadeja’s case even stronger.
