While it came as a surprise to many when MS Dhoni handed over the captaincy baton to Ravindra Jadeja, Kevin Pietersen is of the opinion that the latter will be able to lead CSK in the right direction. He also feels that the veteran Dhoni’s decision to step down is not wrong at all.

The wicketkeeper-batter led CSK from the first IPL season to the 14th IPL season of 2021, which was the 12th for CSK. Pietersen and Dhoni played for the Rising Pune Supergiant when the Men in Yellow were facing the two-year ban.

Pietersen feels that Jadeja is a great all-rounder, and will be able to lead CSK and step into MSD’s shoes to carry on the legacy. “They’ve obviously decided that the time is right to move on from MS Dhoni, but it doesn’t surprise me that they have turned to Ravi Jadeja another cool head who will make good decisions. Jadeja is an outstanding thinker and a very experienced T20 player, so CSK have a good chance of surprising everybody again,” Pietersen wrote for Betway.

CSK proved everybody wrong last season, says Pietersen

The former England cricketer further stated that the CSK proved many wrong in the IPL 2021 and reckons they have a chance to win the title yet again. “CSK proved everybody wrong last season, including myself. There is some young blood coming through there, but they seem to have realized that having cool, experienced heads making decisions is going to give them an edge over everybody else.

“There are so many small decisions to make during a T20 match and if you get more right than the opposition, then you will generally win,” he further wrote. CSK will be playing their opening game against KKR on March 26 and this will also be the debut game for Ravindra Jadeja as the captain in the IPL. It remains to be seen how CSK perform under a new captain.
