The Indian captain, Virat Kohli, was left boiling on Day 3 evening after spinner Ravindra Jadeja’s appalling DRS (Decision Review System) call. It seems like, with so many such incidents happening where his bowlers let him down over the unsuccessful review calls, the Indian skipper has to start declining all DRS appeals by his bowlers unless he is 100% convinced about the same.

Kohli who has the reputation of a bad DRS review-taker seemed very irritated over the left-handed spinner’s decision to review the decision after he saw the ball missing the stumps approximately by three to four inches. He asked his bowler to pull up his socks, but what happened today, just made one thing clear that players hardly learned anything from the instance.

In the 6th over of Australia’s second innings in 3rd Test, the Saurashtra-born bowler, after being hit for a lofted off-drive by Aussie batsman Usman Khawaja, tried to bring a small change in angle to confuse the batsman. However, what happened after that in the ultimate delivery of the over left Indian players especially the skipper mad over the spinner’s over-confidence.

A furious Virat Kohli

On the last delivery of the same over, he bowled a wide outside the off-stump delivery and due to the bounce on offer, it spat from a length to which Khawaja wanted to play down the track. However, the change in the line of the ball meant Khawaja failed to counter the ball and it then lobbed off the pads before finding Ajinkya Rahane at slip.

Jadeja appealed loudly for the wicket but in vain as the on-field umpire turned it down. However, the 30-year-old looked very convinced and asked the skipper to go upstairs for the decision to be reviewed by the third umpire. The Indian captain immediately obliged him and asked the umpire to review it.

But, when Kohli saw the replay on the big screen, he lost his cool once again. HotSpot and RTS confirmed that the ball actually went straight off the pads and then lobbed to slip. There was a huge difference between the bat and ball. Kohli was seen sitting with utter frustration and uttering some words, probably making his mind not to trust Jadeja’s word on DRS again.
