Ravindra Jadeja is quite a character. He comes across as a happy go lucky sort of a person who is at the peak of his prowess as far as Test cricket is concerned. His Test debut in 2012 raised a lot of eyebrows but he worked very hard to become an indispensable member in the longer format of the game.

Jadeja tries to copy Dilruwan

The Indian dressing room was very relaxed as they were gamboling along with Dhawan taking the attack to the home side. Pujara remained focused on turning the strike over and the duo added 253 runs for the second wicket. Ravindra Jadeja was seen in a very jovial mood as India were in a strong position. He was trying to imitate the unusual bowling action of off spinner Dilruwan Perera. The support staff – Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and Sanjay Bangar – had a smile on their faces when Jadeja did it for the first time.

Seeing people around him enjoying the act, Jadeja produced a better version of the imitation which left everyone around him in splits, including the skipper Virat Kohli. Jadeja’s imitation suggested that Dilruwan doesn’t use his non-bowling arm at all and doesn’t follow through much after delivering the ball.

Tough day for the Islanders

Dilruwan was made to toil hard. He bowled 25 wicketless overs conceding more than four runs an over. He has a strong record otherwise in Test cricket, recording 79 wickets from 17 Tests at 29.43. But Dhawan and Pujara grinded down the off-spinner on a pretty placid wicket at the Galle Stadium.

Centuries from Dhawan and Pujara took the sheen of the bowling attack of Sri Lanka. India finished the day on 399 for 3, their second highest total on an opening day of a Test match. They will look to bat for another two and a half sessions to post a gigantic first innings total and bat Sri Lanka out of the Test.
