Royal Challengers Bangalore kept their playoff hopes alive with a comprehensive victory against table-toppers Gujarat Titans. The game saw RCB’s Virat Kohli in fine form as the batter scored a fluent 73 off 54 deliveries. The RCB fans took over the Wankhede stadium as chants in the name of Kohli echoed in the arena.

The RCB fans were equally impressive off the field as they established a new Guinness World Record by accomplishing 823 runs between the wickets on a 22-yard pitch. The event, which saw a group of 187 RCB fans come together, was organized by the sportswear brand PUMA at Jayamahal Palace in Bengaluru. The event was organized in the wake of RCB becoming the first T20 team to be ranked among the Top 10 most popular teams in the world on social media. The event was graced by sports luminaries such as sprinter Dutee Chand and hockey star Rupinder Pal Singh.

“PUMA has always believed in connecting fans with sports culture by creating personalized experiential events for them. We are committed to engaging and serving our consumers in the best possible way. It was great to see cricket fans come in such a huge number to set this new world record. The atmosphere was quite electrifying, and we are glad to get fans on a single platform for this initiative,” said Abhishek Ganguly, Managing Director, PUMA India & Southeast Asia as quoted by My Khel.

Big sports personalities graced the unique event organized by RCB

RCB fans share a special bond with the team and are considered one of the most loyal fanbases in sports, let alone cricket. The VP and Head of RCB, Rajesh Menon was also present to witness this milestone, and he said, “From the jersey to the stands, we always want to bring our 12th-man army closer to the game. We are glad to see our partner PUMA bringing this philosophy alive through one of its kind, a unique on-ground activation on the 19th of May in Bengaluru.”

India’s 100m record holder sprinter Dutee Chand kicked off the event as she completed the first runs before being accompanied by RCB fans, popularly known as the 12th Man Army.

“It was great to be part of this event. I never imagined such a record could be created on a cricket pitch. It was heart-warming to see so many fans unify for this sporting event,” said Dutee.

“Fans always play a crucial part in sporting journeys and having loyal and passionate fans is always a blessing for any sportsperson or a team,” Indian hockey team drag-flicker Rupinder said.

RCB will hope that Mumbai Indians could do them a favour by knocking over Delhi Capitals. The Bangalore-based franchise looks to reward its ever-present supporters with a maiden IPL trophy.
