New Zealand are currently leading the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka by a margin of 2-0. One of the very reasons behind the Black Caps’ victories were Colin de Grandhomme. The 33-year-old is currently the second-highest run-scorer of the series, having notched 103 runs at an average of 139.18. He has given a good account of him, playing the knocks under extreme pressure.

In the first match in Pallekele, he put on a useful partnership with Ross Taylor that pulled the Kiwis out of the precarious position. He mixed caution with aggression and never allowed the required rate to mount. Grandhomme eventually was castled by opposition captain Lasith Malinga. The Harare-born turned up with an even better show in the second encounter at the same venue.

He scored 59 runs and this time around, he didn’t have Taylor, who was ruled out of the contest, beside him. Rather, he had an inexperienced Tom Bruce for company. However, the situation didn’t fluster Grandhomme and he took his team to the brink of victory. Pacer Isuru Udana got rid of him, but by then, the visiting team was already the firm favourites to go over the finishing line.

In the meantime, de Grandhomme has been a recipient of brickbats from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The franchise, led by Virat Kohli, roped in the all-rounder at a price of INR 2.2 crores back in the 2018 edition of the tournament. But he hasn’t quite been able to deliver after a couple of seasons and many reckoned that the team should free him from his services.

In the last season, the Kiwi was entrusted to play only four matches in which he could only manage 46 runs at an average of 15.33. His top of 37 came versus the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at a time when the writing was already on the walls for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.

To add to his agony, he also couldn’t make any sort of impact with the leather in hand. After how he has performed versus the Lankans, the RCB supporters are not happy with him by any means. The fans are questioning him why he doesn’t come up with such performances for Kohli and Co.

Here is how Twitter ridiculed him
