Virat Kohli the captain of the Indian cricket team and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest individual brand in the country right now. With his on-field performances, charismatic captaincy and influential personality, Virat has become the favourite face of advertisers as well. He will soon be leading RCB in the 2018 season of the IPL but ahead of that he’s reportedly denied sharing the screen space with another celebrity for an Ad.

Goibibo the travel and hotel booking company wanted to associate with the Bangalore based team for a co-sponsored campaign for the IPL. They wanted the captain of the team Kohli to star in it with their brand ambassador Deepika Padukone. But insidesports.co reported that the 29-year-old wasn’t keen on doing that with Deepika who is a Bollywood A-lister and RCB had to scrap the Rs 11 crore deal.

Goibibo didn’t want to go into the campaign without their brand ambassador and thus the idea was shelved. The report quotes: “The RCB captain, in general, is not opposed to working with other celebrities professionally. However, in the present case, the demand was ‘beyond the terms of his IPL contract’.”

However, when they reached out to sources in the Bangalore team for confirmation on it they denied and said RCB got a better offer and thus dropped the Goibibo deal.

Interestingly Deepkia was earlier the brand ambassador of the Royal Challengers and was also involved with the then team owner Siddharth Mallya. The two could be seen cheering for the team often for home matches in Bangalore.

RCB’s IPL 2018 campaign

RCB is one team that has always had the resources but never quite managed to get hold of the IPL trophy. Ahead of the 2018 season they have once again bought a good bunch of players, strengthened their bowling, of course, there is Virat Kohli and it will be interesting to see how things transpire this time around.
