India’s young opener Prithvi Shaw has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has been allowed to fly to New Zealand in order to join the India A team for the series there. The India A side is slated to play two tour games, three unofficial one-day matches and two unofficial Test matches against New Zealand A side.

The India A side for the two tour matches and the 3 one-day games consists of the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill will lead the team, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and other talented players who are knocking on the Indian team’s door. Hanuma Vihari will lead the four-day teams against New Zealand. Shaw almost missed the tour due to an injury he suffered during a Ranji game.

The Mumbai opener had made a promising return to domestic cricket after being out for 8 months due to a ban for failing a drug test. Before that, Shaw was on the verge of making his first Test appearance in Australia, but injured his ankle in the practice game in Sydney and missed out that tour, as well as home series against South Africa and Bangladesh with Mayank Agarwal taking his place and doing amazingly well.

The NCA declared Shaw fit after rehabbing his shoulder injury, which he suffered while playing for Mumbai in a Ranji game in BKC, Bandra. The young gun was put on a plane to New Zealand and tweeted, “On my way to New Zealand. Really excited to join my teammates. One of my favourite places where we won the ICC U19 World Cup in 2018.”

Shaw led the India U19 team to the World Cup win in 2018 in New Zealand and he had an amazing start to his Test career the same year against West Indies at home when he slammed a 99-ball century on debut and scored another fifty in the second Test match as well. He is most likely to be picked as the backup opener to Rohit and Mayank for the two-Test series and may even get a look in for the limited-overs series as well if he performs as per expectations.
