Reports: BCCI in plan to stage closing ceremony of IPL 2022 in Ahmedabad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to stage the closing ceremony for IPL 2022 in Ahmedabad where the final is set to be played. Since the emergence of Covid-19 in 2020, the fans haven’t been able to witness the opening and closing ceremonies of the IPL in India and hence, this serves as a great opportunity to get things back in place. The ongoing IPL 2022 edition, comprising 10 teams and 70 league games, are being conducted at four venues in Maharashtra to reduce the chances of Covid-19 transmission through flight travel.

Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and MCA International Stadium in Pune have been the four designated venues so far, and it has been a great success for the tournament since its return to India with the crowds coming in.

The venues for the playoffs have not been announced yet, but in all likelihood, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata is set to host the qualifier 1 and the eliminator, while the qualifier 2 followed by the final on May 29 will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Interestingly, Lucknow has also shown interest in hosting an IPL playoff and a call between Kolkata and Lucknow is yet to be taken.

We wanted to bring the colour of IPL back: Sources

As per sources of Sports Tak, a source had revealed plans of conducting a closing ceremony in the final of IPL 2022 and noted that it will bring back the colour of the tournament. He added that the event management company will come into action once the decision is confirmed by the BCCI.

“We are discussing to have closing ceremony this year final are in Ahmedabad and we wanted to bring the colour of IPL back so you might see closing ceremony. Idea is under process we are yet to take final call on it once decision will be taken will appoint event management company for the same,” the source confirmed.
