As per the latest developments, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to impose a two-year ban on sports journalist Boria Majumdar, who has been found guilty of intimidating veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha over an interview. A three-member BCCI committee investigated the case and found Majumdar at fault. As a result, the renowned journalist will now not be allowed to enter stadiums in India or even meet players.

It must be noted that this saga started in February this year, when Saha took to social media and shared a screenshot of the threatening messages that he had received from a ‘renowned journalist.’ One of the messages read: “You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don’t take insults kindly. And I will remember this.”

A disappointed Saha captioned the post: “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket… this is what I face from a so-called ‘Respected’ journalist! This is where journalism has gone.” Following this massive revelation, Saha received widespread support from cricket stars with many of them urging the 37-year-old to name the culprit.

BCCI committee found Boria Majumdar at fault

In order to probe Saha’s allegation, the BCCI formed a committee comprising vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal and apex council member Prabhtej Bhatia. While Saha was initial hesitant to name the said journalist, he eventually identified Majumdar as the culprit. As a result, the veteran journalist will be handed a two-year ban.

“We will be informing all state units of the Indian cricket board to not allow him inside stadiums. He won’t be given media accreditation for home matches and we will also be writing to ICC to blacklist him. Players will be asked not to engage with him,” a top BCCI official told The Sunday Express on condition of anonymity.

It is to be noted that Majumdar had accused Saha of “altering” the screenshots of the WhatsApp messages. However, the committee found him at fault and hence, the journalist will now not be allowed to engage with cricketers.
