In what can be called a delightful piece of news for Chennai Super Kings, Deepak Chahar will be available for the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As per the latest developments, the right-arm pacer will not undergo a surgery, as suggested initially, and is likely to be fit to play by the middle of April. As of now, he’s undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

For the unversed, Chahar sustained a quadricep tear during the T20I series against West Indies which forced him to miss the subsequent series against Sri Lanka. As per the initial reports, the bowling all-rounder was set to miss the major part of the season, if not the entire competition amid a surgery. However, as the plan for surgery has been contemplated, Chahar should be available for selection from mid-April.

CSK to monitor Deepak Chahar’s fitness

Meanwhile, this major report has been carried out by the Times of India. It has also been learnt that CSK wants Chahar to join their camp in Surat in the next couple of weeks. Apparently, the franchise wants to monitor the pacer’s fitness and make him ready as soon as possible. It must be noted that Chahar has been a vital part of CSK since the 2018 season.

He can inflict damage with the new ball alongside bowling handy death overs as well. So far, he has taken 58 wickets in as many appearances for the Yellow Army. Not to forget, the 30-year-old has also emerged as a handy batter lower down the order. Owing to all these factors, CSK shelved away a whooping INR 14 crore to reacquire the pacer’s services in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Notably, this was the first time CSK spent over 10 crore to purchase a player in the bidding event. Meanwhile, CSK, having won the title four times, will step into the competition as defending champions. The side looks pretty settled on the paper as they have managed to retain their core. Hence, expectations are again high from MS Dhoni’s men.
