Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami continues to face allegations from his wife, criticism from various segments, and this is likely to continue until he is otherwise proven innocent by law. Shami has been booked under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC by the Kolkata Police who are investigating the matter.

Later, his wife also accused the cricketer of match-fixing, to which a furious Shami had said that if he is found guilty of doing that, he should be hanged to death. In the wake of this all, his immediate future with the Delhi Daredevils team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) remains doubtful, but as per reports, he will get a green signal to play for his IPL team despite his central contract being withdrawn.

The decision was taken in the IPL Governing Council meeting held on Friday. “We have principally agreed to allow Shami to play in the IPL. We felt that whatever is happening in his personal life should not have any bearing on his professional career. He is an exceptional cricketer. He will play eventually,” a top BCCI official told mid-day.

The Kolkata Police continues its investigation

The Kolkata police recently confiscated the cricketer’s phone, and also sought help from the BCCI in tracking all the travel details under Shami’s name. A special investigation is being made into his Dubai trip, during the time when the pacer was returning to India from the tour of South Africa. His wife Hasin Jahan alleged that Shami spent time with one of his girlfriends in Dubai and also accepted money from her.

Shami’s presence in the Delhi team will bolster the side who, under a new captain, Gautam Gambhir and coach Ricky Ponting, look good for a title win in this edition. Delhi are yet to win a single trophy in the tournament’s history of 10 years. IPL 11 begins on April 7 in Mumbai.
