There has been a lot of confusion ever since the selectors named Virat Kohli as the captain for the two-match T20I series against Ireland. He was supposed to miss the low-key contest following his commitments in the County cricket where he will feature for Surrey. Moreover, the dates of his final game against Yorkshire and the first game of the series are clashing which perplexed the many. However, it has been made clear now that Rohit Sharma will be leading the Men in Blue in the first game while the regular skipper will return to play the final match of the series.
Virat is all set to ply his trade in his maiden County stint where is bound to play six matches in the month of June. While three of them would be limited overs cricket and the other three would four-day games. Though the scenario is still interesting as his match against Yorkshire will end on June 28 and India will play the second T20 International against Ireland the very next day. He will only land in Ireland a few hours before the match and might be tired due to travelling and playing constantly.
Kohli to lead India in the second game
According to the reports in Mirror, Rohit Sharma will India much like he did in the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and would be looking to continue his winning run. However, he will hand back the charge to the regular captain once he reaches Ireland to play the final match of the series. “If we had named a separate captain for the first T20I, and Kohli for the second match, it would have led to more confusion. Obviously, Rohit Sharma would lead in the first game and Kohli will be back for the next,” the source was quoted as saying by Mirror.
However, there will be an interesting face-off between Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in the County Championship when Surrey will face Yorkshire which everyone will be looking forward to.
