Subramaniam Badrinath has been a stalwart in the Indian domestic circuit, representing Tamil Nadu. However, he didn’t play the erstwhile edition of the Ranji Trophy due to anonymous reasons. The veteran may announce his retirement very soon as per reports in Times Now. He also represented Team India in a couple of Tests, seven ODIs and a solitary T20 International match against the Windies back in 2011.

However, due to the emergence of younger talents and his own lack of consistency at the highest level Badrinath went out of contention for a berth in the national team. He had also been an integral member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and played quite a few handy knocks for them. The 37-year-old has over 10,000 runs at the first-class level but unfortunately didn’t get enough opportunities to replicate the same for India.

Probable end of a long career for Badrinath

He played for Tamil Nadu for 14 straight years. Thereafter, he moved to Vidarbha in the 2014-15 season, where he captained the team for a couple of seasons after which he played one season for Hyderabad as well. Badrinath has also played for the Karaikudi Kaalai in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). In the 2017 edition of the tournament, he played eight matches in which he managed 154 runs at an average of 22.00.

He made his international debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla, one match after the debut of Virat Kohli in the same series. He was rewarded with a Test cap in India’s match against South Africa in 2010 and commenced his career with a patient knock of 56 runs off 139 balls. However, he failed in his next couple of innings and never staked his claim back into the Indian team.

He is currently associated with the IPL as an expert and commentates in his native Tamil language for the matches.
