The former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is most likely to be appointed as the coach of Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise is in talks with the legendary player and it is being expected that the formal announcement could be coming soon. Delhi is also in need of a director as TA Sekar, who was with them for past 10 years stepped down from the position citing personal reasons on Thursday. However, it would be interesting to see whether Ponting accepts the offer and return to the lucrative league.

Ricky Ponting has previously had the experience of coaching Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2016 when the team won the title in his first year as a coach. It is also being learnt that he is being wooed by Rajasthan Royals who will return to the league after serving the suspension of two years. There is also a possibility of Sekar associating with Mumbai for the next season after he parted ways with Delhi.

We’re in talks with several people

The CEO of the Delhi Daredevils franchise Hemant Dua refused to give clarity on the matter when asked about Ponting being appointed as the coach. “”We’re in talks with several people,” he was quoted as saying by Times of India. “Ponting is most likely to be signed up by the Daredevils as their next coach. However, apart from the Daredevils, he’s also being wooed by the Rajasthan Royals,” a source close to the franchise confirmed as per TOI.

Also, Robin Singh and Paras Mhambrey will not work with Mumbai Indians now after being with them for so many years. While the former has shifted his base to Dubai where he’ll be starting his own school academy, the latter has joined National Cricket Academy of BCCI as a bowling coach. Robin is also known to be working in the recently launched T10 league. The defending champions have their work cut out as far as the supporting staff is concerned and would want to rope in some brilliant coaches around the world.
