Rishabh Pant shattered records on his way to an exceptional 159-run knock in the fourth and final Test match against Australia in Sydney. His knock helped India post a mammoth total of 622 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the first innings. However, the youngster has admitted that he was scared after crossing the 90-run mark.

Pant walked in to bat with India’s scoreboard reading 329/5 and the visitors weren’t in a safe position yet. Known for his swashbuckling batting, Pant surprised everyone by playing cautiously. He gave himself some much needed time in the middle and it worked for him. His partnerships with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja deflated Australia completely and now has taken one result out of the equation completely.

I got out before in the 90s

While speaking to the reporters after the end of day’s play, Rishabh Pant went on to say that he was extremely scared after getting close to the three-figure mark. He recalled the way he was dismissed twice in the 90s against the Windies at home. “I was a little nervous because when we were playing in India against the West Indies, in the last two innings I got out on 92 both times. I was scared slightly but I got through that phase early,” he said.

When asked about his celebration after reaching the landmark the wicketkeeper-batsman said, “I loved my celebration I didn’t think that I’ll do something like that, whatever expression came out of me I just did that.”

As far as the match is concerned, Australia have scored 24 runs so far with the openers going unscathed during the tricky 10-over period. The first session of the third day will be crucial for them as the spinners will come into play now.
