Rishabh Pant has probably become a cult hero among the Indian fans with his antics behind the stumps in the ongoing Test series against Australia. The youngster, called by many as the worthy successor of the legendary MS Dhoni, grabbed the limelight after trying to unsettle the Australian batsmen from behind the stumps. His hilarious attempt to get under Usman Khawaja’s skin by telling him he is not Cheteshwar Pujara to challenging Pat Cummins to hit a six still bring a wide grin on the fans’ face.

But unlike the previous games, the highly-rated keeper-batsman showed traits of his illustrious predecessor as instead of getting involved in banter, he did something constructive. Just like Dhoni, Pant also analysed the situation well and gave his valuable inputs to the bowler and the skipper. He was keenly observing spinner Ravindra Jadeja from behind the stumps.

Paine was offering dead bat to anything that Jadeja was delivering. Realising a chance, Pant asked skipper Virat Kohli to alter the field. He explained the reason behind the move and Kohli agreed immediately. Consequently, the silly-point fielder was moved to short-leg.

Here is a clip of Pant suggesting the field change:

India in command at MCG

It is one-way traffic at the MCG for the time being as India bowled the hosts out for just 151 runs to take a massive 292-run lead. Trailing India’s first innings total of 443 for 7 by 435 runs, openers Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch started the proceedings. The duo, however, could not last long and both departed with just 36 runs on the board. Australia kept on losing wickets at crucial junctures which never gave impetus to their innings.

They were eventually all out for just 151 with Jasprit Bumrah being the star of the show. The 25-year-old picked up his career-best figures of 6 for 33 to put India in the driver’s seat.
