Despite being severely criticized for his irresponsible shot selection, 23-year-old Rishabh Pant, without a doubt, has a bright future ahead of him. He currently is plying his trade for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the on-going edition of the IPL.

Pant has been a vital cog of Capitals’ wheel since the day he joined them. The southpaw has scored 171 runs in five matches in the tournament so far. Pant, who bolsters DC’s middle-order with his explosive prowess, has registered scores of 31, 37*, 28, 38 and 37 in the UAE.

Delhi are currently sitting second in the points table with four wins under their belt. The tournament is still in its preliminary phase and all eyes will be on Pant to continue his momentum and strengthen his place in the national side too. Since the arrival of KL Rahul in the wicketkeeping department, Pant’s future with the national side has been looking vague.

Meanwhile, opining on Pant’s current form, West Indies great Brian Lara has said that the youngster has ‘vastly’ improved his game. Lara pointed out that Pant has now also improved his off-side play and the ability to score runs in all parts of the ground.

Rishabh Pant is a major asset for the Delhi Capitals: Brian Lara

“I think he is a major asset for the Delhi Capitals, but today he has also vastly improved his game. I am talking about his batting and the improvements he made in that department. On what is immediately noticeable is his propensity to try and get everything to the leg-side. Also, look at his run-scoring chart and that’s quite a proof of that fascination he has with the on-side. I think he has come to the realisation that this is not working and he went away and worked on improving his off-side play,” said Lara on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.

“Now look at the changes he made. Now he has the ability to score runs in all parts of the ground. His scoring charts are looking impressive, and yes, more worry for the bowlers.

He is now very well balanced and he is looking to score in key areas that he is not accustomed to scoring-– over extra cover, over point, in front of point and his balance and his weight is staying there, he is not falling over to the off-side to create shots on the leg side. That is a vast improvement that he has made, which obviously going to help his all-round batting. I believe, this young lad has a long-long way to go,” he added.

Talking about Pant’s IPL career, the hard-hitting left-hander has scored 1907 runs in 59 games, including a ton and 11 half-centuries.
