Rishabh Pant has been over the moon in the last year or so. His stock rose multifold ever since the wicketkeeper-batsman made his Test debut in England, as he went from a rather unknown quantity, who set the Indian Premier League (IPL) on fire. He took on one of the best bowling attacks in the world in the oldest format of the game in conditions suitable to them and emerged on top.

His power hitting has been one of the primary reasons for Delhi Capitals’ success as they have even qualified for the playoffs of the ongoing IPL 2019, the first time since 2012. A regular member of the Test side, Pant almost made it to the Indian World Cup as he has been included among the standby players. In the IPL, he has played two special knocks against Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals where he single-handedly took DC to victory.

You only learn from your experiences and mistakes

The 21-year-old has been phenomenal in the ongoing IPL season having scored 401 runs in 14 matches at an average of 36.45 and a strike rate of 157.87, which includes 3 half-centuries and the best score of 78*. However, his tendency of throwing away his wickets attempting rather unnecessary and rash shots despite being in a comfortable situation has been a subject of criticism from all corners.

In this IPL Pant gave away his wicket attempting risky shots and this has raised questions about his maturity. Some experts also believe that this habit of throwing his wicket may be the reason why he wasn’t picked in the Indian World Cup team and Dinesh Karthik was chosen over him. “I take any criticism positively. Finishing matches is important. I will learn to do it consistently. You only learn from your experiences and mistakes,” Pant was quoted as saying by Times Of India.

“Things don’t change overnight. I am just 21. It’s difficult to think like a 30-year-old man. In due course, my mind will be stronger and there will be a lot of maturity. You need to give it time,” Pant further added, citing that he is still young and needs time to change the mindset.

His team DC will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on May 8 in Vizag and Pant’s primary focus will be to help them reach the final of the tournament.
