Veteran Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu was at his destructive best on Monday (April 26) as he made a mockery of Punjab Kings bowlers at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Coming to bat at number five in the chase of 188, the 36-year-old was watchful at start but once he got his feet settled, there was no stopping him. The ball was flying all over the park as CSK’s hopes were alive.

With the help of six maximums and seven boundaries, Rayudu ended up scoring 78 off 39 balls before falling prey to Kagiso Rabada. Unfortunately for him, the dasher ended up on the losing side amid lack of contribution from other batters. Nonetheless, his heroics earned massive praises on social media and Wasim Jaffer was among many to laud the batter.

Wasim Jaffer recalls Ambati Rayudu’s infamous tweet

The former Indian batter was yet again at his hilarious best as he pointed out a connection between PBKS all-rounder Rishi Dhawan and Rayudu’s mayhem. “Rayudu batting even more aggressively tonight. Rishi Dhawan’s glasses may have reminded him of something,” tweeted Jaffer while sharing a snap of Rishi sporting the unique mask to protect his face.

Jaffer apparently pointed out at Rayudu’s infamous tweet after not finding a place in India’s 2019 World Cup squad. As the selectors went with all-rounder Vijay Shankar due to his ‘three-dimensional abilities’, Rayudu had tweeted: “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup.”

The context of Jaffer’s tweet was evident as the comment section got flooded in no time. Meanwhile, CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja was mighty pleased with Rayudu’s efforts. He also reckoned the defending IPL champions would have crossed the line if other players had also stepped up.

“We started off very well, we felt we gave away 10-15 runs extra at the end. We did not execute our plans very well. He [Rayudu] was batting brilliantly, throughout but as I said earlier, if we could’ve restricted them to under 175 it would’ve been good. We are not getting good starts in the first 6 overs, that’s where we are lacking and hopefully, we will come back stronger,” said Rayudu after the game.
